Burgert Family Reunion - California 2014

This photo of R. O. came from Suzanne.  To my question of where did our grandparents meet it appears their fathers were in business together in Osborn, Kansas.  They moved to Lawrence in 1910.  Celeste, first born, was born in Osborn.
I wish I had asked for more stories

A mini reunion in Boise

NOW TO BUSINESS

BRING A SWEAT SHIRT – today was in 80’ and tonight we needed sweater for a time.  We have a breeze in the back yard.   Check out the blog – new photos.

Ed and Carolyn are arriving by Labor Day and will help with last or next to last minute Honey Does.  FYI : He is running for Mayor so brings those campaign buttons and yard signs.

Wednesday – we will be around.

Thursday  - Wes, Ann and family are planning on going to Knott’s Berry Farm. https://www.knotts.com/.  Contact Ann for details of their plans, maybe that sounds like it might be fun.

We have no plans for Thursday but all are welcome to come and hang out and get reunion in motion.  Please feel free to “take out and bring in” food. http://www.portillos.com/, Ed and Carolyn say these are terrific hotdogs and the restaurant is near Knott’s if that is your adventure. Or In-N-Out Burger, 6292 Westminster Blvd (Willow Ln.), Westminster, CA 92683 is a favorite and not far from our house.  Subway Sandwich shops are close or call and we can help with ideas.   (possibly arrange car pools for Friday morning)

OFFICIAL OPENING EVENT

Friday morning – we hope everyone will gather at the Beachcomber Café at the Crystalcove State Park in Newport Beach. The restaurant is right on the water.  It is scenic, tide pools and walks around the historic guest cottages. Time could be spent just walking the beach. Check out the links. A great kick off adventure. I am unable to get reservations so we gather at the foot of the stairs and wait for availability in groups.  I am thinking 9:30.  Comments and questions invited.

Then work your way back north or enjoy sights to the south including Laguna Beach. http://www.lagunabeachinfo.com/
Fashion Island shopping center is between our home and Crystal Cove http://www.shopfashionisland.com/  Come hang out.

Friday evening: 6:30 Pizza will be served.  Please let us know if there are dietary issues, i.e. vegetarian or gluten free.  We will need a head count.
And we will discuss who wants to do what on Saturday.  Carpooling suggested.  None of these adventures include freeway driving.

Saturday morning – continental breakfast at our home before you head out on your adventure.   There are tons of things to suggest to go and see.  The USS Iowa is in the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. The road from Huntington Beach to San Pedro skirts along the ocean to San Pedro, including a trip over the Vincent Thomas Bridge.  The Long Beach and LA Ports are visible.   http://www.pacificbattleship.com/  Watch your Groupon ads for discount tickets if you are interested

Then Lunch in San Pedro, just down from the battleship is Ports of Call is a possibility.   http://www.sanpedrofish.com
Long Beach has a nice aquarium.

Or take a walk in Seal Beach, including a walk on the pier and maybe toes wet in the Pacific.  Huntington Beach has a downtown (lots of restaurants and bars) and a pier.  Seal Beach has kept the flavor of small town.

Saturday evening - dinner at our house about 6:30.  At present count I think we will be 29 people.  This is going to be fun.

Sunday morning – breakfast at local Coco’s – they will give us the back
room.

Karen’s family is joining us and we will have a toast.

Suzanne and Norman are not joining us – travel is difficult.  Jay and Doris have sent their regrets. Doris starts school and cannot get away.
